Control WINS Query Settings (Windows 95/98/Me)
Category: Home > Network > Protocols > WINS

These settings control the WINS query parameters including the number of query attempts and query timeout.

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new string value called "NameSrvQueryCount" and set it to the number of query retries, the default is 3.

Create a DWORD value (or string value for Windows 98) called "NameSrvQueryTimeout" and set it to the number of milliseconds to wait before timing out a name server query, the default is 750.

Restart Windows for the changes to take effect.

Settings:
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP]
Name: NameSrvQueryCount, NameSrvQueryTimeout
